Background

Back in February 2021, while I was scrolling my Facebook, I came across a post showing a small USB dynamo hand crank that charges USB devices. This got me interested as I am thinking if there is a scenario where there's no power to charge my devices, especially my smartphone.

I did my research and found that the small USB dynamo hand crank that I first saw has a low power output, hence it may not have enough power to charge modern smartphones like iPhone X onwards. As such, I decided to search for a better emergency hand crank unit. This leads me to the Tenergy Multifunctional Hand Crank Emergency Radio. The design of this unit looks good and professional, and as such, I decided to purchase it from Amazon.

The Stuff

The Tenergy Multifunctional Hand Crank Emergency Radio has a rectangular block design which is a radio, a flashlight, SOS siren, and a 2000mAh power bank to charge USB devices. Recharging the battery of this device can be done in 4 ways: hand crank, external USB, 3X AAA batteries, and solar energy.

Here are some pictures that I have taken to show how the stuff looks like:

Usage and Experience

I have been using the Tenergy Multifunctional Hand Crank Emergency Radio for a while now to test out the functions. I am pretty pleased that it has been working well as expected. I have tested charging phones like the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, Mi 10 Pro, and iPhone X successfully.

The batteries are meant for standby or backup in the event the internal battery cannot recharge fast enough base on requirements. The 3X AAA batteries are not to be put in unless required and remove once done, so as not to drain them away.

Usage is very simple. To turn on the radio, simply turn the volume knob and adjust between the AM, FM, and WB modes. Turn the tuning knob to adjust to the radio station of choice.

The flashlight has the following sequence: weak light, strong light, SOS light, off. Press the light button to turn it on and press again to move to the next sequence.

The floodlight has the following sequence: weak, strong light, off. To turn it on, press the floodlight bottom located at the bottom of the unit and bring the light up before pressing the light button. Press the light button again to move to the next sequence.

To recharge the unit using solar power, simply place it at a place where there is sunlight. The Solar indicator will light up in blue to show that it is charging via solar power.

To recharge the unit using the hand crank, simply swing out the hand crank handle and crank it either clockwise or anticlockwise. The battery indicator will light up to show that it is charging.
